What’s in the Water? > Public Art Installation

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Aloera Climate Creative Society, co-created by Sichen Grace Chen and Jasmine Lee, presents an ephemeral public art installation in the heart of Kitsilano titled, What’s in the Water?. This installation is a collaboration with the West 4th Business Improvement Association and was funded by the City of Vancouver's Placemaking Program that enabled community groups to beautify and reimagine community spaces within the city.

Aloera took this opportunity to transform the 4th and Maple plaza into an underwater scene, relating the network of parallels between the Salish Sea and personal identity, especially as they relate to five aspects of queerness: Transformation, Translucency, Fluidity, Reflection, and Boundlessness. What's in the Water? encourages passersby to explore the connection between bodies of water and our own human bodies in order to inspire reflection and conservation efforts.

The installation was on view from September 15th to September 29th at the 4th and Maple Plaza. Through tactile interaction, observation, and curiosity, passersby were encouraged to immerse themselves in this block-long installation where time is no longer linear, and document their play with any of the photo ops - the Origami Paper Boat, Pearl Mural, and repainted planters.
